“One does not just watch a dance by Zvi Gotheiner. One enters a world with its own internal logic, a sensual, organic world of movement, language, and images where one is pulled along by currents unseen and inevitable.” – Dance Magazine
At most live shows, cell phones are forbidden, but at ZviDance’s 7 Days performance of “Zoom,” cell phones are most certainly encouraged. For the piece, audience members use their cell phones to comment on the dance in real time, with their comments projected to a screen above the stage. Then the dancers start texting back. Audience members sometimes get phone calls requesting their presence onstage, and the interaction is like nothing you’ve seen at a dance performance before.
ZviDance blends contemporary aesthetics with lush, full-bodied movement. Led by Israeli-born Artistic Director Zvi Gotheiner, each piece defines a unique set of relationships, boldly addressing the depths of the human experience. ZviDance has received critical praise and significant funding for its artistic pursuits. The company performs frequently at home in New York City at venues such as the Joyce Theater, Dance Theater Workshop and Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors. Acting as a cultural ambassador for the city, ZviDance has toured across North America to festivals such as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and The American Dance Festival.
