“The passionate joy with which these musicians have embraced this music and its heritage is palpable and inspiring...they approach their art in a spirit of in-the-moment celebration, making it accessible to everyday listeners as well as folklorists and aficionados.” – Living Blues
The Grammy-Award-winning string band the Carolina Chocolate Drops seeks to keep the centuries-old string-music tradition alive and developing. Lauded by SPIN for bringing “a modern sizzle to the legacy of classic African American string bands” and hailed by NPR’s All Things Considered as “a wonderful thing to watch,” the trio is getting major attention of music critics, including the New York Times, Rolling Stone and USA Today.
Paste Magazine notes that “Several generations removed from the origins of their chosen idiom, the Carolina Chocolate Drops are nonetheless the genuine article.” The music certainly has its fans -- their acclaimed Genuine Negro Jig landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart its first week out.
The quartet’s high-energy live shows have already become the thing of legend, so its Tallahassee debut is already creating a good deal of buzz. Don’t miss it.
