The Vienna Boys Choir
8 PM | BRADFORDVILLE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
PURCHASE TICKETS"There's no more gratifying sound than that of children singing," states the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, "And there's no more polished ensemble of children's voices than the Vienna Boys Choir."
Founded in 1498 by the Emperor Maximilian I, the timeless and incomparable Vienna Boys Choir has been famed for its purity of tone, musical depth and distinctive charm for more than 500 years. Composers including Schubert, Mozart, Salieri, Biber and Bruckner have all worked with the group, which, until 1918, sang exclusively for the court.
The group first sang outside Vienna's Imperial Chapel in 1926 and quickly sparked a sensation. Within a decade, the VBC had toured most of Europe, as well as Australia, South America and the United States, places the group continues to visit regularly.
The choir's repertoire includes everything from medieval to contemporary and experimental music. Motets and lieder for boys' choir form the core of the touring repertoire, as do the choir's own arrangements of waltzes and polkas by Strauss. The choir has a long tradition of commissioning new works, and performing major choral and symphonic works.
In recent years, they have performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Recent guest conductors include Pierre Boulez, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti and Seiji Ozawa.
As The Salt Lake Tribune noted, "The angelic voices of this most famous vocal group are ageless." The group's lush vocal sound will be heard to excellent effect in the Bradfordville Baptist Church.
