Rennie Harris PureMovement
8 PM | FSU SMITH-FICHTER DANCE THEATRE
PURCHASE TICKETSRennie Harris Puremovement (RHPM) is world-renowned as an international hip-hop dance ambassador, offering “an almost perfect synthesis of drama and dance…fusing break dance, hip hop, and jazz in a stunning display of virtuosity” (Chicago Tribune).
In a society where hip-hop is often portrayed as a violent, undisciplined counterculture, RHPM deconstructs popular perception of this medium, expanding and challenging the boundaries of hip-hop. And they’re a lot of fun to watch.
“If Rennie Harris Puremovement were any hotter, it would incinerate before your eyes,” exclaimed The Village Voice.
Rennie Harris founded RHPM in Philadelphia in 1991, based on the belief that hip-hop is the most important original expression of a new generation, with the unique ability to express universal themes that extend beyond racial, religious, and economic boundaries.
Over the years, RHPM has honed its performances into a “complex, deeply intuitive dance experience that takes the vocabulary of the galvanic African-American street form into the realm of the spiritual...contemporary dervish dancing” (Los Angeles Times).
While in Tallahassee, RHPM will offer master-classes for FSU Dance students, as well as an educational-outreach performance for Leon County Schools.
